![]() ![]() The main problem was the installation of Truecrypt on my Pi because there is no ARM binary. ![]() The rest of the hard drive is encrypted with Truecrypt. The advantage is that you don’t need an internet connection to download the installer. I created a little partition (about 100MB) which is not encrypted and download the Truecrypt installer for each OS to that partition. Not everyone uses Linux, so I could not encrypt the hard drive with LUKS.īut I had an idea to encrypt the hard drive with Truecrypt, which is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The problem was that I also wanted to use the hard drive to copy files from a computer of a friend. But all the data stored on that drive should be encrypted. My idea was to connect the hard drive to my Raspberry Pi so that everyone in the network can read the data on that drive. Note: The group "truecrypt" will not be deleted and the changes in the sudo configuration will not be restored.A few days ago my new USB hard drive arrived. Sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre python-pexpect build-essential There are no extra memory (RAM) requirements for TrueCrypt. Note that this does not mean that the whole file that is to be encrypted/decrypted must be stored in RAM before it can be encrypted/decrypted. Similarly, files that are being written or copied to the TrueCrypt volume are automatically being encrypted on-the-fly (right before they are written to the disk) in RAM. Files are automatically being decrypted on-the-fly (in memory/RAM) while they are being read or copied from an encrypted TrueCrypt volume. Entire file system is encrypted (e.g., file names, folder names, contents of every file, free space, meta data, etc).įiles can be copied to and from a mounted TrueCrypt volume just like they are copied to/from any normal disk (for example, by simple drag-and-drop operations). No data stored on an encrypted volume can be read (decrypted) without using the correct password/keyfile(s) or correct encryption keys. On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. ![]() TrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device).
